Kennys New Africa Co-Team Leaders

May 6, 2013

aaron-erica-kennyCanadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) recently announced that Global Field Staff Aaron and Erica Kenny will be the new Africa Team Leaders, effective immediately.  The Kennys replace Colin Godwin, who will be departing CBM as of June 30, 2013 to become the President of Carey Theological College in Vancouver.

Having served with CBM since 2006, the Kennys have been the Guardians of Hope Coordinators in Africa, helping to oversee CBM’s HIV & AIDS program with our church partners in Kenya, Rwanda and Congo. They are also working in outreach and community development among Muslim women through activities such as English literacy projects, self-help groups, vocational skills training, micro-enterprise development, community health initiatives and peace building projects at the Eastleigh Community Centre in Nairobi.

Dr. Terry Smith, CBM’s Director of International Partnerships, believes that CBM’s ministry in Africa is in excellent hands with the Kennys.  “They combine that unique blend of compassion for the poor, solid relational skills, servant leadership, and a deep commitment to integral mission. They have directed a number of large programs in Africa in the midst of very complex challenges, such as post-drought relief in the Northeast Province of Kenya, Muslim women’s livelihood initiatives in urban Nairobi and the Guardians of Hope program, and in each of these they’ve demonstrated what it takes to help bring about transformational mission from the grassroots.”

Aaron & Erica are the youngest couple to be appointed to this role that serves  colleagues and CBM partners in Angola, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Kenya.  “Serving with CBM in Africa has been an incredible experience! We are very excited for this opportunity to encourage and empower our church partners and colleagues in the transformative work of integral mission,” says Aaron.

As Baptists in Atlantic Canada, we have a rich heritage and a strong representation of appointees to CBM Global Field Staff positions.  This is something we can be proud of and we give thanks to God.
