Leadership Development

The Leadership Development department works to equip and strengthen leaders who can lead healthy and vibrant churches. We do this by providing a clear process, communities, events, media, and information.

Leadership Development

The Leadership Development department is committed to providing a clear process that’s specifically designed to strengthen leaders who can lead healthy and vibrant churches.

We often intersect with other areas of the CBAC’s work. In particular, the Sozo Centre for Soul Care works with our leaders to develop skills for flourishing and resilience in our leaders, and provides encouragement to congregations to support the wellbeing of their leaders.

Solid leadership is rooted deep in the disciplines of our lives. If we are to be the leader that God has asked us to be, we need to pay attention to these areas:

  • the character of the leader
  • the knowledge of the leader
  • the skills of a leader

Hope-filled, thriving leadership is crucial for our churches to be joining God in our neighbourhoods.

Resources & Programs

Equipping & Events

  • Masterclass is a series of events seeking the transformation of our CBAC leaders with continued learning from world-class speakers.
  • The Sharpening Leaders Initiative (SLI) is provided by Arrow Leadership through the CBAC’s Leadership Development department. The SLI is a developmental journey to collectively and collaboratively develop your leadership capacity and capability. With innovative and Jesus-centered tools and training, you will build a culture of being led more by Jesus, leading more like Jesus and leading more to Jesus. SLI includes three (3) in-person summits, webinars, learning communities, and monthly connections.
  • Explore is an annual event for individuals looking to enter our process towards ordination. This event will help you: discover who the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada (CBAC) is and discover who you are and your call through the use of an Emotional Intelligence Profile, Personality Profile, Spiritual Gift Inventory and conversations. For those who are planning on coming before the Board of Ministerial Standards and Education, this is a requirement for acceptance as a Candidate and will be a prerequisite to appearing before the Board for their initial interview.
  • Lay Learning Labs are accessible and practical learning sessions for lay leaders seeking to improve and develop their skills that will help them lead the church in this current moment.

Accreditation & Journey to Ordination

We have resources for CBAC accredited ministers or those who feel led by God to prepare for vocational ministry. They may also help those who are leaders in churches better understand how someone prepares to become, and maintains one’s standing as, a pastor in our CBAC family.

Ministry Regulations, approved by the CBAC Assembly, govern the activities of the Board of Ministerial Standards and Education. They include information about the processes toward ordination, recognition of prior ordination, and becoming a recognized lay leader, as well as professional standards and ethics for pastors and lay leaders. This information is meant as a resource for those who are accredited ministers or those who feel led by God to prepare for vocational ministry or recognized lay leadership. The information here can also help those who are leaders in churches better understand how someone prepares to become, and maintains one’s standing as, a pastor/recognized lay leader in the CBAC.
