Canada Summer Jobs Grant 2019

January 21, 2019

Many will recall the conversation around the Canada Summer Jobs Grant this time last year. Fortunately, some necessary changes have been made for 2019. Many of you are probably aware of the changes by now. If you’re not, there are some changes you need to be aware of. Our apologies for getting this information out so close to the deadline – January 25, 2019.

We’re very thankful the Federal Government has changed the application for 2019 Canada Summer Jobs, including replacing the problematic attestation from last year. The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) has written a helpful analysis of the 2019 CSJ application. We encourage you to read it as your church or camp looks at applying for CSJ grants. https://www.evangelicalfellowship.ca/Resources/Government/Canada-Summer-Jobs-Grant-Program-(2017-2019).

Their analysis outlines three new elements in the 2019 application: New wording for the Employer’s Attestation; New criteria for ineligible projects and job activities; Description of hiring practices to ensure an inclusive workplace free of discrimination.

The Canadian Council of Christian Charities (CCCC) has also provided some helpful thoughts about this: https://www.cccc.org/news_blogs/barry/2019/01/03/to-apply-or-not-to-apply-for-canada-summer-jobs-funding/.

Here’s the link to the CSJ application and info on the Government of Canada’s website: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/funding/canada-summer-jobs/apply.html.

It’s up to each church and ministry to carefully look over the documents and make a decision to apply or not to apply.
