CBAC Announces Candidate for Director of Future Church

The Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada (CBAC) is pleased to announce that, following a thorough search process, the Search Committee is recommending Rev. Matt Vincent as the candidate for the role of Director of Future Church. This recommendation will come to the CBAC family for a vote at Oasis 2026 during the business session on August 7.

The Director of Future Church is a key leadership role within the CBAC, focused on helping our churches faithfully discern and respond to God’s leading, both for today and for the years ahead. This includes walking alongside churches as they explore partnerships and new ministry models, while also investing deeply in emerging leaders who will shape the future of our churches. This role is central to our shared vision of Overflowing with Hope, helping our churches move forward with courage, collaboration, and Spirit-led imagination.

Matt Vincent currently serves as Lead Pastor of Lewisville Baptist Church in Moncton, NB, and brings more than 23 years of pastoral and denominational leadership experience. (Despite sharing the same last name, he is not related to CBAC’s Kevin Vincent.) Matt and Bobbi have been married for 25 years and have four children. Though newer to the CBAC family, Matt has already become a trusted and valued leader among pastors in the Moncton region and beyond, fostering unity, collaboration, and shared mission among churches. Matt has already been in the process of transferring his ministerial credentials to CBAC.

Throughout his ministry, Matt has demonstrated a deep love for Jesus and the local church, along with a passion for helping leaders and congregations navigate seasons of growth, change, and renewal. He has experience in church planting, mentoring emerging leaders, and working collaboratively across denominational contexts. Through the interview and discernment process, the Search Committee identified in Matt a rare combination of qualities that align closely with the heart of this role:

  • A pastoral and courageous leader who can walk with churches through complex decisions
  • A future-oriented thinker who can translate vision into practical next steps
  • A relational connector who builds trust and collaboration across leaders and churches
  • A passionate developer of emerging leaders
  • A leader who holds together deep care and hopeful imagination for the future of the Church

These qualities position him well to serve and support the CBAC family in this next season.

Rev. Renée MacVicar, CBAC’s Executive Minister, says:

“I’m so grateful for the way God has led in this process, and truly excited about Matt. He brings a unique combination of wisdom, relational strength, and future-focused leadership that will be a real gift to our CBAC family. Matt has a heart for people, a passion for the local church, and a clear ability to help leaders move forward with hope and clarity. He adds real strength and capacity to our CBAC team, and I’m excited for how he will serve our churches as we continue to live out our Overflowing with Hope vision.”

Rev. Matt Vincent shares:

“I am humbled and excited to join the CBAC team and for the opportunity to discover together what God has next for us. My pastoral and leadership journey has been marked by small but meaningful steps forward, responding to the invitation of Jesus to join in God’s mission. This has led to many wild adventures and incredible opportunities, as well as some difficult and challenging seasons. Through it all, God has been faithful and truly good. I see this next step with the CBAC as another example of God working and inviting us to move forward together. I’m thankful for the privilege of serving as Lead Pastor at Lewisville for the past three years, and for this new opportunity to bring my experience and gifts to serve alongside Renée and the rest of the team. I couldn’t be more thankful or excited for the days ahead, and I look forward to meeting and getting to know you.”

The Search Committee brings this recommendation with gratitude for God’s leading throughout the process and with anticipation for what lies ahead. We also want to recognize Matt’s ministry at Lewisville Baptist Church. During his time there, he has led with wisdom, care, and clarity. Transitions like this are never easy, and we are grateful for the faithful ministry of Lewisville Baptist. We commit to praying for Matt and for Lewisville Baptist in the transition.

We invite the CBAC family to:

  • Pray for Matt and his family
  • Pray for Lewisville Baptist Church in this transition
  • Pray for our churches as we continue to discern God’s future together

Further details will be shared at Oasis 2026, where delegates will have the opportunity to vote on this appointment.
