Main Street Baptist Church has had a significant year-round ministry presence in the Old North End of Saint John for many years. This area is a low-income community with its share of blessings and challenges. Due to the high number of urban poor and single moms, Christmas is a time when the church works together to help those around the neighbourhood.

This year we were able to:

  • Provide a free turkey dinner with all the trimmings for 285 people from the community
  • Provide Christmas gifts for 391 children
  • Provide 105 families received Christmas hampers which included a weeks worth of Christmas groceries and a few small gifts and treats

This enormous feat requires 100 volunteers who joyfully work together. Also, the congregation gives substantially, above and beyond their regular giving to make this happen. Kevin Munroe, whose family volunteers each year to help says “What has always been amazing to us ins the number of families that are touched by this program. What it gave us as a family was to serve our community and share God’s love in a practical way and we were able to do this together.”

Over the past two months, we have received over $16,000 toward this ministry. Main Street gratefully acknowledges a grant from the Atlantic Baptist Mission Board which helps offset the cost of our Community Outreach Pastor, John Knight who leads this effective ministry.
