Who Remembers CGIT?

March 5, 2015

CGIT-100thDo you remember Canadian Girls In Training (CGIT)? Were you ever a member or leader? Many of our Baptist churches offered this program in the past.

2015 marks the 100th year since CGIT was established. Recall your experiences, however far back in the past they were, and to reflect on what CGIT has meant to the women of our congregations and to the churches in which we have given service and leadership.

Although CGIT has declined steadily since the 1980’s, the members of the Maritime Regional CGIT Committee want to emphasize thanksgiving and celebration for all that CGIT has been.

If your church has a history of CGIT, they are encouraging you to plan a commemorative event during 2015. It could be an afternoon tea, a time of sharing for all the former CGIT’ers in your church. It could be a community-wide get-together for your village or town, a regional day-long rally (Cape Bretoners are already planning a May event), or a reunion Christmas Vesper Service in late November.

The Maritime Camp is planned for Aug. 1-8 at Camp Wegesegum, Chipman, NB. CGIT alumnae are invited to join in for the last day and night, Friday, Aug. 7th.

The regional committee hopes there will be lots of 100th birthday parties for CGIT, celebrating all the women who learned and lived our purpose: “…to cherish health, seek truth, know God, serve others, and thus, with His help, become the girl God would have me be.”

There is a packet of resources available for your use. To order or for information about the camp, contact: Sandy MacBean, 18 Alexander Crt., Stanley, NB, E6B 1E4 (Tel. 506-367-2163; email ).
