Baptisms are key component of the outward expression of the inner change that God has made in our lives. As Baptists, we believe by being baptized, we are being obedient to God in following Jesus’ command (Matt. 28:18-20). While not necessary for salvation, baptism has great personal importance for the one being baptized and a great witness for the church community and the wider community. Max Lucado wrote that “Baptism is bowing before the Father and letting him do his work.” (www.maxlucado.com/
As the wider body of believers, We celebrate with all individuals and churches that have been a part of baptisms over recent months. During the warmer months, many churches have baptisms outside (although many of us have heard stories of baptisms taking place after cutting a hole in the ice). Rev. John Weiler, Regional Minister for Region III (Eastern NB & PEI), often posts pictures of baptisms and other celebrations in his region. You can find them here: http://johnweiler-region3.org/happenings1.htm.
