Ministry in our camps is starting to ramp up for the summer. It’s an exciting time as camp directors, staff and potential campers hope for lots of great weather, time with friends and opportunities to share God’s love. One unique camp happening this summer is a Mission Camp at Camp Tulakadik (NB), June 1-3, 2012. Geared for adults (18+), this camp will explore what it means to be the “sent people of God” in a world that is changing at a mind-blowing pace. Special speakers will be Aaron & Erica Kenny (CBM Global Field Staff) along with a representative from Canadian Foodgrains Bank and some workshop leaders from our CABC churches who have been involved in missions both locally and globally. You will even have the opportunity to enjoy culturally themed meals.
You’ll even have the opportunity to gets your hands dirty. Thanks to the Camp, Sussex Valley Vegetable Farm, and Canadian Foodgrains Bank, campers will be able to participate in a farming project that will help fight hunger and poverty around the world. Come and plant pumpkins at Camp that will be harvested in the fall and sold to raise money in support of food aid in Kenya.
Camp Director Michael Waddell has a personal reason for hosting a camp like this:
The idea for a ‘Mission’ camp came to me after a lot of personal reflection following a short term mission trip to Kenya in 2009. That experience change the way I thought, the way I went about things; it changed my life. I was really wrestling with how we in small town Canada could make a impact globally through our businesses, our churches, our communities, and even our camps. The intention of this camp is to raise awareness of the Mission that God has called all of us to (both locally & globally) and to challenge us to think creatively around ways we can get involved. We are not all called to be missionaries in a foreign land but we are all called to spread the message of Christ to a lost and broke world. This farming project is a partnership between Camp Tulakadik, Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and Sussex Valley Vegetable Farms. It is just a small way for us all to get our hands dirty and contribute to the fight against world hunger. Come and be prepared to be challenged to think and consider what it means to be the people of God sent into a broken and hurting world full of people who desperately need a Savior!
