The Point Church – Bathurst

April 20, 2016

The-Point-Bathurst-02The Point Church grew to three locations and five weekend services with the official launch of their Bathurst location on February 28th. The Bathurst location was previously known as Bayview United Baptist Church and the change marks a fresh commitment to reaching the Bathurst area with the message of Jesus.

“Churches that refuse to change their methods are finding it increasingly difficult to share the incredible message of Jesus with their communities,” says Lead Pastor, Kevin Matthews. “Here at The Point Church, we are changing lots of the methods, but that very old message has remained the same. And the result is that hundreds of people are giving their lives to Christ.”

The-Point-Easter-01Hundreds of people isn’t an exaggeration. Easter this year saw a record number of people for all locations—totalling 1020. The team at The Point Church hopes that the incredible growth will be an encouragement to churches across the Atlantic region—especially those from small churches in small towns. The Chatham site (previously Wellington Street Baptist Church) has tripled in attendance since merging with The Point Church, while Bathurst has already doubled.

“The original congregations have been incredibly excited for the changes, especially once they’ve started to see their kids, grandkids, neighbours, coworkers, and friends coming to church,” says Kevin, “It’s as simple as taking Acts 15 seriously by not making it difficult for people to turn to God. We’re not a church just for church people. We’re a church for all people.”
