Happy 149th Birthday, Canada! Where were you 148 years ago? Well, obviously none of us were around but many of our churches were. Can you guess how many?
In 1867, 10 CABC churches were birthed. 1867 and earlier, 240 CABC churches that are still active today were in existence when our great country was born. Another 50+ churches were active then that are now closed. There are likely countless others that we’re not aware of.
Two of our churches can trace their history back 252 years ago when New England church planters arrived in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick – https://atlanticbaptist.ca/news/news-videos/250-years-baptist-witness-canada/.
Living in Canada we have much to be thankful for. God has blessed us with incredible beauty in the land all around us. The people of Canada are as diverse as the landscape where we live. Many around the world would do anything to have what we have.
So let’s give thanks that we get to live here. Let’s celebrate the freedom we have. Let’s consider how we might share our blessings with others around us. Let’s consider how we and our churches can come alongside refugees seeking to live in Canada.
[If this post sounds familiar, it is. Consider it a Flashback Friday since it’s what we posted for 2015. It’s a good history lesson. It’s good to remember. But we can’t move forward looking in the rear view mirror. We need to look ahead to the future God has for us and make the changes necessary so we can join God in changing Atlantic Canada.]
