Appealing to CBAC Churches: Hurricane Fiona Disaster Relief

September 30, 2022

Hurricane Fiona has left some neighbourhoods in Atlantic Canada facing significant needs. We’re inviting you to help.

Would your church consider collecting a special offering?

For Thanksgiving Sunday (or another Sunday that’s better for you), we have an invitation for our churches: would you consider taking a special offering for the CBAC’s Hurricane Fiona Relief Fund?

Context

In central and eastern Prince Edward Island, central and eastern Nova Scotia, and southwestern Newfoundland & Labrador, the effects of the storm are still being felt.

The CBAC and Canadian Baptist Ministries are working together to facilitate donations to relief efforts. If you are able, please consider a contribution to our relief fund.

We have heard from CBAC churches in these areas who are ministering to people with food security challenges, property damages not covered by insurance, housing issues, and uncertainty about when they will get power back.

These needs are so significant that many of our churches with benevolent funds have already depleted them in the week after the storm (or expect to run out soon).

Our churches in these areas are well-positioned to offer help. They are regularly in touch with people who need assistance, and they are often working proactively with other community groups. With the support that our Baptist family can give, they can make a real difference in addressing these needs.

CBM is helping to spread the word to our wider Canadian Baptist family and receiving donations that will go towards these relief efforts. We thank God that we have a national network of Baptists who are praying and giving financial assistance.

We are grateful for our partnership with the CBAC and the opportunity to respond to the needs that have resulted from this devastating storm. This crisis response is a way for the Canadian Baptist family across the country to come together and empower local churches who are providing practical assistance in the name of Christ to people in their communities.

– Jennifer Lau (Executive Director, Canadian Baptist Ministries)

If you or your church are able to donate to our relief fund, this will be distributed quickly and completely to the relief efforts of our churches in the affected areas. This is an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus, a way to demonstrate a deep love and care for our neighbourhoods.

Below are three options to contribute to relief efforts:

We will work closely with CBAC churches and leaders in the affected neighbourhoods to evaluate the situation and distribute these funds to support the churches’ relief. 100% of funds towards this initiative will be forwarded on.
