Emancipation Day – August 1st, 2021

July 30, 2021

The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
    because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
– Luke 4:18-19
August 1st is Emancipation Day, marking the anniversary of the Slavery Abolition Act (1834).

The Canadian Council of Churches (of which the CBAC is an Observer) is facilitating an Emancipation Day Ecumenical Celebration to give thanks to God for His faithfulness and redemptive love on a day when we officially celebrate the abolition of slavery in British colonies.
If you would like more information, or if your church is interested in joining the celebration, there are resources below to help plan your celebration.

The African United Baptist Association of Nova Scotia was represented by Yolande Johnston in the online service produced for Emancipation Day (link below).
