SUMMARY:Fall Pastors Retreat
DESCRIPTION:A spiritual retreat is an invitation to grow in freedom of spirit and openness to God. \nA spiritual retreat is not stopping all activity\, but a change of activity. It is an intense focus on a particular activity—seeking God. It is an intentional moving away from daily routine to draw closer to God in solitude and/or in community. It involves the practice of spiritual disciplines\, such as spiritual reading\, silence\, and prayer as pathways to greater intimacy with God\, self and others. \nA spiritual retreat provides an opportunity for pastors to connect deeply with God\, themselves and each other. These retreats are a combination of group and individual retreat time. Each retreat has a theme that helps to guide the retreat but it is the participants and the Holy Spirit that shape the retreat experience. \nThis year\, bursaries provided by the Atlantic Baptist Foundation have reduced the cost from $250 to $175\, or $125 for first-time attendees. \nThe retreat is 4 days / 3 nights at Bayside Camp\, Sambro Head\, NS. Accommodations are one person per room. It is a modern camp style with one bunk bed per room with a small table\, chair and lamp. Bring own bedding\, towels\, etc. Please arrive by 1:00pm on Monday; the retreat will end before lunch on Thursday. \nRegistration deadline: October 22 \n \n Registration has closed

SUMMARY:Masterclass – November 2025
DESCRIPTION:Moral scandals and toxic church culture reveal the evil within us. This Masterclass explores markers of healthy church leadership among Canadian churches\, as drawn from a 2024 study of 31 congregations using Jim Collins’ good-to-great framework. These findings engage theologically with Scot McKnight and Laura Barringer’s work on harm caused by unhealthy church structures and narcissistic leaders. Finally\, the practice of presence is promoted as an embodied posture exemplifying goodness in Canadian church leadership. This research offers practical insights for developing virtue-centered leadership that resists toxicity and cultivates flourishing congregational life. \nElizabeth Millar (Doctor of Practical Theology) is a Research Fellow at the Canadian Institute for Empirical Church Research – Wycliffe College (University of Toronto) and conducted the “Greatness” in Canadian Congregations research study in 2024-25. She also works as a spiritual director\, a mentor for students at two Canadian seminaries\, and the Storyteller for Vision Ministries Canada. Elizabeth lives on Prince Edward Island with her family. \nMasterclass is a series of events from our CBAC Leadership Development department\, seeking the transformation of our CBAC leaders through continued learning from world-class speakers. Sponsored by Crandall University.
