SUMMARY:Masterclass: Hope-filled Conversations for the Future 2
DESCRIPTION:Hope-filled Conversations for the Future 2\nDate: Tuesday\, May 27\, 2025 @ 1:30pm ADT (2pm NL)\nSpeaker: Mr. Joel Murphy (ADC Director of the Futuring Lab) \nTitle: Faithfully Navigating Tomorrow: Introducing Theo-Futures Thinking \nHow can Christian leaders faithfully navigate a rapidly changing landscape? This Masterclass offers a dynamic introduction to Theo-Futures Thinking\, a practical\, theological framework designed to equip leaders to explore\, anticipate\, and respond to emerging trends shaping the future of the Church. \nTogether\, we will explore how theological reflection and foresight tools can inform faithful leadership amid uncertainty. Participants will be guided through the latest Navigating the Future report\, which explores the mega trend of Self-Curated Spirituality. Which refers to a cultural shift in which individuals increasingly shape their own spiritual beliefs and practices\, often outside traditional religious structures. \nThrough facilitated dialogue and futures exercises\, participants will learn how to: \n\nUnderstand the foundations of Theo-Futures Thinking;\nAnalyze emerging trends from theological and practical perspectives;\nEngage in scenario exploration rooted in the mega trend of Self-Curated Spirituality;\nIdentify implications and discern faithful next steps for ministry and leadership.\n\nThis session is ideal for pastors\, ministry leaders\, theological educators\, and anyone seeking tools to help their communities thrive in an age of spiritual fluidity and cultural change. \nRegister to receive a Zoom link. \nThe CBAC Leadership Academy’s Masterclass is a series of events from our Leadership Development department\, seeking the transformation of our CBAC leaders with continued learning from world-class speakers. SUMMARY:(FULL) Spring 2025 Sozo Pastor's Retreat
DESCRIPTION:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This retreat is now full\nWatch for information about the next Sozo retreat\, coming November 3-6. Contact Cheryl Ann Beals for more info about Sozo Centre.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n A Spiritual Retreat is not stopping all activity\, but a change of activity. It is an intense focus on a particular activity—seeking God. It is an intentional moving away from daily routine to draw closer to God in solitude and/or in community. It involves the practice of spiritual disciplines\, such as spiritual reading\, silence\, and prayer as pathways to greater intimacy with God\, self and others. \nA spiritual retreat provides an opportunity for pastors to connect deeply with God\, themselves and each other. These retreats are a combination of group and individual retreat time. Each retreat has a theme that helps to guide the retreat but it is the participants and the Holy Spirit that shape the retreat experience. \nA spiritual retreat is an invitation to grow in freedom of spirit and openness to God. \nSpiritual Retreats for Pastors. The retreat is 4 days / 3 nights at Bayside Camp\, Sambro Head\, NS \nThis year bursaries provided by the Atlantic Baptist Foundation have reduced the cost from $250 to $175\, or $125 for first-time attendees. \nAccommodations are one person per room. It is a modern camp style with one bunk bed per room with a small table\, chair and lamp. Bring own bedding\, towels\, etc. \n \n Retreat is now full

SUMMARY:Masterclass: Politics After Christendom (Christians in Politics)
DESCRIPTION:Politics After Christendom\nRev. JC Jasmin (French Union) \nJoin us for an insightful workshop that delves into the complexities of politics in the post-Christendom era. This session will offer a comprehensive overview of key issues\, informed in part by the influential theories of French philosopher Chantal Delsol. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the transition from a predominantly Christian worldview to a more secular political landscape. We will explore themes such as the decline of religious influence in public life\, the rise of secular ideologies\, and the implications for contemporary governance and societal values. \n \n \n \n \n \n About Rev. JC Jasmin\n Rev. Jean-Christophe (“JC”) Jasmin the Québec Director at Cardus where he draws on his background as a federal public servant\, and training in political philosophy and theology to foster collaboration between faith communities\, policymakers\, and the broader public. JC is passionate about nurturing a robust civic framework\, and sound public policy aimed at the public good across Québec and beyond. \nAn ordained pastor in the French Baptist Union\, he is able to combined bring insights from his faith and policy background to help policy makers understand the assumptions and commitments of their public work\, while also helping faith communities understand the public nature of their faith\, with a steady eye on the common good. He also directs public affairs at the Réseau Evangélique du Québec\, a network representing the different Evangelical Protestant Churches and ministries operating in the province. \nBorn and raised in Montréal\, he’s the first of his lineage to live outside the island since 1710\, and is proud of his heritage and Québec culture. He now resides in L’Assomption with his wife and their three children. An avid hiker\, he finds inspiration in the outdoors\, where he reflects on the intersection of faith\, culture\, and society. \n \n Register\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Christians in Politics – A Special Masterclass Series\nIn a cultural moment marked by political polarization and increasingly global tension\, pastors face the unique challenge of guiding their congregations through complex societal issues while preserving unity and peace within the church. ‘Christians in Politics’ is a special CBAC Masterclass Series designed to empower church leaders to navigate the current political moment with biblical wisdom\, compassion\, and integrity. \nThis series offers practical strategies for addressing divisive topics\, fostering respectful dialogue among diverse perspectives\, and leading congregations toward a Christ-centered response to today’s political climate. Participants will explore the role of Christians in politics\, theological frameworks for civic engagement\, and tools for promoting unity without compromising core values. \nThrough sessions led by CBAC friends and family\, these sessions will aim to equip leaders to be peacemakers\, bridge-builders\, and faithful witnesses in a divided world.

SUMMARY:Special Masterclass: God's Chosen Leader for Canada? (Christians in Politics)
DESCRIPTION:God’s Chosen Leader for Canada?\nChristian Nationalism\, Theocracy\, and the Separation of Church and State\nDr. Anna Robbins \nIn this Masterclass we will explore the rise of Christian nationalism\, authoritarianism\, and political polarization in Canada\, and the ways these forces challenge both our public discourse and the integrity of Christian witness. As election rhetoric increasingly invokes religious language and the notion of theocracy\, Christians must think carefully about how to engage politically while remaining faithful to the gospel. \nRooted in theological reflection on current political realities\, this session will examine: \n\nThe theological and political implications of claiming divine endorsement for political leaders.\nThe subtle ways Christian nationalism can shape public narratives—even in Canada.\nHow authoritarian tendencies and polarization impact churches and communities.\nPractical ways Christians can engage in public life without compromising their call to the separation of church and state.\n\nParticipants will be encouraged to reflect on how Christians can serve as a faithful\, courageous\, and hopeful witness in a divided world. \n \n \n \n \n \n About Rev. Dr. Anna Robbins\n Anna Robbins serves as President of Acadia Divinity College. She had an interest in politics from a young age\, completing her first degree in Ottawa in Political Science. Her PhD focused on social ethics and in London she was involved in the political thinktank Theos and Christians in Politics. On a few occasions\, she led Bible Studies in the Palace of Westminster for Members of Parliament and the House of Lords\, political support workers\, and journalists. She has researched and written widely on issues related to politics including social justice\, collective responsibility\, and public theology.
